Mission of Concerned Citizens of Greenwich...

CCOG was formed to raise awareness of detrimental issues impacting the health of many residents within the community of Greenwich, CT. CCOG established this website to share it's findings with the citizens of Greenwich, CT to allow a population of 61k residents to draw their own conclusion.

CCOG strongly believes contamination truly exists in the "affluent" Town of Greenwich.  While most think that the air is clean, lawns are lush and plush, the water looks pretty CCOG dives deeper into the unknown questioning why this has happened to our town and strives to tackle the source of where the contamination originates from.

For decades in our communities Air, Water, and Soil has been compromised by pollution.  This poses a serious underlining problem that our local government has been able to keep at bay over the years until Greenwich High School in 2011.

Truth be told....toxins lurk all over town, they are now becoming a continual reality for it's citizens each time Municipal Improvement (M.I.) is sought and a shovel turned. Our local government attempts to evade it's responsibility in respect to human health by abandoning the project, or tip toeing around suspect area's.

Abandonment of responsibility it's all about the dollars and cents unless it's on a private property.

To date in town, their are seven sites and growing,  The Cos Cob Power Plant, Greenwich High School, Byram Shore, New Leb School field aka. William Street Ball Field, Armstrong Court abutting the closed landfill where incineration occurred from 1938 to 1977-78 known for years as The Dump now giving it the classy name  of "The Holly Hill Transfer Station".

The findings have been confirmed through environmental reports some overseen at the state level.  Remediation is needed now as these contaminates prove detrimental to the health, safety and welfare of the community.

CCOG's goal is for the town to recognize it's decades of wrongs and force them to follow the laws that were enacted in the 70's that were put in place to safeguard citizens of Greenwich and demand they follow through with proper testing rather than preliminary testing that is shallow in depth and clean up our residential and public area's.

The town of Greenwich is suppose to be the gatekeepers of public health and ensure us a clean environment. Why are they not holding up their end of the deal?  Do as we say, not as we do as they were the biggest polluters of all.  They have no problem taking tax dollars and spending it on wants rather than the needs of this community.  Penny wise has resulted in pound foolish.  At the end of the day who's shoulders does this rest on?  Tax payers?  Why are we falling prey to their "novelty ideas". It's nice to have amenities and extra's but shouldn't we at a minimum, perform good housekeeping practices?

One wonders, how many of these town officials live in our town that are making decisions for us?  Voters and tax payers are the bloodline to this town.  With out us, it simply can not survive and will all fall apart.

The saying goes, It takes a village.  Together we can achieve success, combat illnesses, preserve the land, positive strives, make a difference. We can demand a difference, environmental change, and reclaim health.

Are we not deserving of a better tomorrow for our children and families today, or for our generations to come? Stand up and make your voice heard that this is no longer acceptable for the Town of Greenwich.  The time is now!   Please continue to check back as new information and developments are added!
